The road was long and his journey seemed as endless as always. Kyuzo had no real home and no place to lay his head after a hard day’s work. Though in retrospect in would be difficult to do so being a mercenary that can never stay in one place for too long. After a while it becomes easy for enemies to figure out where he would live if given the chance. His job had created more enemies than he was aware of and his demonic blood was enough to gather spite from humans that did not even know him. Despite these hardships Kyuzo was not one to complain. Life on the move did have its perks. Most ningen had never seen as much of Japan as he had. It was a beautiful country despite it being in the midst of the worst war in history.
It was a particularly hot day though and Kyuzo was not one for modesty. For onlookers the sight of a hanyou walking openly down a well traveled road was odd enough. The fact that he did so only wearing a white hakama was even more starting for those he passed by. On his back was a rather large sack and a seven foot tall naginata, the rest of his clothes and weapons were in the sack. Despite most of the dirty looks he received which was no different than normal he found it odd when a little boy ran up next to him and tugged on his hakama. “Nee nee Onii chan… why are your ears so pointy?” the very young child asked. Kyuzo smiled at how brave the child was. Most children hid behind their parents yet this boy broke free from the mothers grasp and held no fear of him. He put his hand on the child’s head, smiled and responded “It’s because I’m special. My mother was very strong and passed her power to me.” The small boy stared in amazement and then ran back to a very worried mother claiming to have met a man that had super powers. Kyuzo mearley smirked at what he heard the boy joyfully recite as the parents quickly scolded the child for talking to Kyuzo.
He continued down the omodatta road hoping to hear news of another job. Even better would be a village full of food that was cheap and tasty. Traveling the road was never boring and on occasion led to the meeting of another being that was mildly entertaining to talk with. Other times it lead to fighting foolish ningen bandits or pathetic youkai that only saw weakness in Kyuzo’s hanyou blood. Either way the day was still young and the road still much longer.
